A man running from the police Thursday night was apprehended after his car landed in the Middlesboro Canal. He is now being held in the Bell County Detention Center, where he is facing over 10 charges.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Josh Messer was assisting another trooper when 25-year-old Jacob Tyler Money passed with a damaged rear tail light, the rear license plate was not illuminated, and there was no visible registration plate. Messer left the scene and attempted to stop the vehicle.
Money continued to driving at a high rate of speed and according to the report, passed several locations to pull over and eventually stopped at Binghamtown Market. When Trooper Messer got out of his cruiser to approach the driver’s side and very shortly afterward Money fled the stop.
Messer then proceeded to follow Money with lights and sirens. Money continued to drive at high rates of speed and exceeded 60 mph in a 35 mph zone and continued to cross the center line.
When Money approached the intersection of 25th Street and Cumberland Avenue, Money failed to stop and entered a residential driveway going through the yard and went over an embankment landing in the canal.
According to reports, Money attempted to jump out of the Mazda and run away on foot. Messer got out of his vehicle and went after Money. A short time later, Money was taken into custody.
Messer stated that Money was exhibiting behavior consistent with being intoxicated. Money couldn’t tell the trooper when the last time was that he used drugs.
Money was taken to Middlesboro ARH following the wreck because he was not wearing his seatbelt.
After being released, he was taken to the Bell County Detention Center where he remains.
Money is charged with speeding, no brake lights, no insurance, first- and second-degree fleeing or evading police, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, resisting arrest, failure to wear a seat belt, and he was served two warrants.
