Jacqueline Coleman, running mate of governor candidate Andy Beshear, paid a visit to Bell County Friday afternoon when she visited the Bell Theater.

Coleman is currently an assistant principal at Nelson County High School, and she is continuing her pursuit of a doctoral degree in education leadership from the University of Kentucky.

Her father served as a state representative in the 55th District from 1991 until 2004.

In 2013, Coleman founded Lead Kentucky, which is a nonprofit that helps Kentucky college women seek leadership roles on campuses and beyond. She also participated in Emerge Kentucky, a program that trains Democratic women to run in elections.

When Coleman ran for state representative in the 55th District in 2014, former governor Steve Beshear hosted a fundraiser for Coleman, and she doubled her opponents fundraising but lost the race by more than 30 points according to Spectrum News.

Beshear’s election website states that as Lieutenant Governor, Coleman would focus primarily on Kentucky’s public education system and supporting the commonwealth’s rural regions.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in history with an emphasis on political science and secondary education from Centre College in Danville and then earned a master’s degree in political science from the University of Louisville.

While in graduate school, Coleman was an intern at the Women’s National Democratic Club in Washington, D.C.

Coleman lives in Mercer County with her family and husband, Chris O’Bryan.

Kentucky’s primary election is Tuesday, and Bell County Clerk Debbie Gambrel is encouraging everyone to get out and vote.
