The Harrogate Garden Club is a Co-Club winner for District IV of the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs. They received their award on Friday at the Spring District IV Meeting.
Barb McCune, president of the Harrogate Garden Club explains that she has to complete a yearly report of all the activities that the club has completed, which is submitted to the Director of the District.
“In order to be a club of excellence, we had to complete certain requirements,” McCune explains. “We knew we had completed many of those items – such as, beautifying the city garden across from LMU where we weed weekly, restoring the gazebo garden at LMU, decorating the city with lights and bows during the Christmas season, education project with the cub scouts and girl scouts, and completing several University of Tennessee extension garden courses.”
She also explains that there is a Master Gardener in the group, along with members belonging to professional plant organizations, such as the National Hosta Society.
“We expected to receive a Club of Excellence Award, which we did receive,” she said. “However, they always choose a club of the year, which is not applied for and it’s decided by the director of our district. She said she couldn’t choose between the two clubs, so we were chosen as one of the Co-Clubs of the Year for 2018.”
The club attended the District IV Spring Membership Meeting at Fox Den County Club in Knoxville, Tenn. on Friday to receive the award.
“It was a team effort by a great bunch of garden lovers,” McCune expressed.
