Midway University freshman and former Pineville Lady Lion Jillian Enix has enjoyed her first year of college so far.

“It’s been a pretty good year so far,” said Enix. “I’ve enjoyed getting used to the college life, and I’m really looking forward to the next few years.”

Enix compares living in Midway to living in Pineville.

“That’s one of the main reasons I decided to go here,” said Enix. “It’s a lot like Pineville. It’s really laid back, and people are friendly here. I’m not directly in the city, but I’m also not too far away – that’s the way I like it.”

After signing with Midway last March, Enix spent the past season playing for the Midway Lady Eagles — where she averaged 11.9 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game in her freshman campaign. Enix says that adapting to sports on the collegiate level have been a lot of work.

“The change in the speed of the game has been the most important part of adjusting to college basketball. Our coach likes to push the ball and run the floor, so we are in shape,” said Enix. “We do a lot of running and practice hard to make sure we can dictate the pace of the game.”

Enix’s teamwork is the focal point of her collegiate game.

“I averaged right around 16 points in high school in my senior year. I wasn’t a big scorer —I didn’t have the big numbers like your 20 something or 25 points a game, but I always tried to be as much of a team player as I could,” said the former Lady Lion. “I would do whatever my team needed at any point in time on the floor, no matter what that was. That has translated over to the college level. I go out and do whatever my team needs whether its scoring, assisting, defense or rebounding.”

Enix earned multiple postseason awards and accolades playing for Pineville High School. In the 2017-2018 seasons, she won the Player of the Year award for the 51st District, given away by the media. She also earned spots on the All-13th Region team by both the media and the 13th Region Basketball Coaches Association.

Enix was an instant difference maker at Pineville beginning her freshman year. She led the team in points and rebounds for all four years. She saw her numbers increase gradually each season.

As a freshman, Enix averaged 9.6 points and 7.0 rebounds. As a sophomore, those numbers increased to 13 points and 7.6 rebounds. Her junior season saw the Pineville standout average 13.9 points and nine rebounds.

During her senior season, Enix put together one of her best years averaging 16.1 points and 11.8 rebounds. Her rebounding numbers placed her just outside the top-10 in the state.

All in all, Enix finished her career with 1,694 points, 1,218 rebounds, 453 assists, 275 steals and 139 blocks. She helped lead Pineville to two 13th Region tournament appearances and one 51st District title.

Enix is looking forward to her next season for the Lady Eagles.

“This year was a developmental year for us,” said Enix. “We didn’t have a whole lot of returning players, so we were pretty young this year. I’m looking forward to the continuity of having most of our team back next season. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us but a lot of potential too.”
