Pineville High School has found their new head football coach, and it is a familiar face in the county. Randy Frazier will take over as the new Mountain Lion coach. A press conference to announce Frazier as the new coach is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

The move comes following the resignation of former coach Bart Elam, who decided to leave to pursue interests at the collegiate level. Elam spent 13 seasons at the helm at went 63-82 with the program.

For Frazier, this isn’t his first time coaching inside the 13th Region. Recently, Frazier was the defensive coordinator for Whitley County.

Most fans will remember Frazier from his time as the head coach at Middlesboro between 2010 and 2013. During that time, he went 23-23. His most successful season came in 2013, where the Yellow Jackets went 9-3 and advanced to the second round of the playoffs.

That year, Middlesboro only lost to Pikeville and Somerset (twice). The Briar Jumpers advanced to the state semifinals that season.

Frazier also had an impressive career as a player. Following his playing days at Whitesburg, he played college football at Morehead State University. He later signed as a free agent in the NFL. His first head coaching job in the high school ranks came at Cumberland High School in Harlan.

Frazier will take over a young Pineville team that impressed fans just last year. The Mountain Lions went 4-7 after having early season success with wins over Leslie County, Jackson County, Berea and Middlesboro. The team only graduated six seniors but will lose their leading passer, rusher and tackler.
