The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) National Alumni Association hosted a dedication for Democrat Hollow on Oct. 12, as part of the LMU Homecoming festivities.
The LMU National Alumni Association purchased a historical marker for Democrat Hollow to note the significance it has played in the history of the University. Democrat Hollow, behind Mary Mars Gymnasium, is the location of the High Adventures ropes course. The area is just under the ridge of what was once the sanatorium of the Four Seasons Hotel and is part of the original LMU campus.
Early on, the tract was the location for small homes constructed for University employees. It got its name because of the political affiliation of the first residents. Democrat Hollow filled a special need during the first decade of the 20th century. As the campus grew, the homes were removed and it became a popular area for picnics and other activities for the campus and local community.
