HARROGATE, Tenn. — The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Carter and Moyers School of Education will present the 2018 installment of its “Upholding the Constitution” lecture series featuring Judge Lynn W. Davis on Oct. 26.

Davis will present a seminar entitled “Judicial Reflections on the United States Constitution: An Enduring Document for All Ages.” Funded through the generosity of its namesake, Dr. G.L. Carter, the School of Education hosts the workshop annually. Suited for middle and high school teachers, all pre-service educators, K-12 social studies teachers, law professionals, students and the community, the program will begin with registration including a continental breakfast at 8 a.m. The seminar will run from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and lunch is included.

One of Utah’s longest tenured judges, Davis was appointed to Utah’s Fourth Circuit Court in 1987 and the Fourth District Court in 1992, where he continues to serve Juab, Millard, Utah and Wasatch counties in Utah. Prior to his appointment to the bench, Davis served in private practice and as Deputy Utah County Attorney. He received a law degree from J. Reuben Clark College of Law at Brigham Young University (BYU). His office is lined with dozens of history books, photos of Abraham Lincoln, mementos from the Civil War and even a piece of the Berlin Wall. He says each is a reminder of the prices that have been paid for freedom, and it was his love of history and the U.S. Constitution that first led him to consider a career in law.

Davis is past chair of the Board of Circuit Court Judges and is chair of the Board of District Court Judges. He has received the Utah State Bar Judge of the Year Award, the Excellence in Public Service Award, the Utah State Bar Distinguished Service Award, the Freedom of Information Award and was named a 2007 Honored Alumnus at BYU. He is the chair of the Utah State Court Interpreter and Translation Panel and also serves on a national advisory committee on court interpretation.

The program will take place from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Business and Education Building on the LMU main campus in Harrogate, Tennessee. Registration opens at 8 a.m.

This seminar is entirely underwritten and provided to participants at no cost. A continental breakfast, lunch and all printed materials are included. The lunch will take place at the LMU Cumberland Gap Convention Center. Registration is required.
