A child was transported by Bell County EMS on Friday after being struck by a vehicle near Log Mountain.
According to a press release from the Kentucky State Police, at approximately 12:20 p.m., KSP Post 10 received a complaint of a juvenile being struck by a vehicle near Log Mountain Auto Sales just outside of Pineville. Trooper Roy Pace responded to the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates a 2002 Ford pickup truck, operated by Larry Elliott, 68, of Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, was traveling through a car wash parking lot to approach the southbound lane on U.S. 25E when a 9-year-old male juvenile was running and entered his path of travel.
According to the release, the male juvenile fell under the pickup and became pinned beneath the pickup’s rear tire. Elliott said his vision was obstructed by several tire racks in the area, and he didn’t see anyone in the parking lot.
The juvenile was treated at the scene by Bell County EMS and transported to Middlesboro ARH. He is expected to be transferred to UT Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. No criminal charges were filed against the operator of the pickup or the male juvenile’s guardian. The collision is still under investigation by Pace.
