NORMAN, Okla. – The Lincoln Memorial University men’s golf program has earned 18Birdies All-Academic status for the 2017-18 school year, it was announced by Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) officials.

In order to be eligible for the GCAA’s annual All-Academic Award, teams must possess a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or better. Lincoln Memorial was one of a record 222 All-Academic honorees representing either the NCAA, NAIA or NJCAA to garner All-Academic status.

In total, only 40 NCAA Division II programs received the honor, while Newberry was the only other South Atlantic Conference men’s golf team to join LMU on the list.

The Railsplitters had seven student-athletes garner 2017-18 SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll status by maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher in Tyler Bohanan, Dan Bradbury, Andrew Briggs, Sam Broadhurst, Brady Davis, Ray Gordon and Garrett Tucker. Of those seven, four were members of the Railsplitters’ starting lineup (Bradbury, Broadhurst, Davis, Tucker).

In addition to thriving in the classroom, the Railsplitters produced far and away the most successful season ever for the LMU men’s golf program this past year. The Railsplitters made history on May 9 when they finished in fifth place at the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional to earn a trip to the Men’s Golf Championship in Muscle Shoals, Ala. There, LMU advanced to the Elite Eight after 54 holes of qualifying, where they eventually succumbed to Florida Southern in the national quarterfinals.
