In just his second year on a productive Middlesboro team, Collier Elkins made waves and showcased improvement on the baseball field. The soon-to-be junior will have the opportunity to prove what he can do on a bigger stage after being selected to participate in the Kentucky Sophomore All Star Game.

The event will take place on June 19.

Elkins played most of the year in the infield as either a second baseman or shortstop. He played a limited amount of games in the outfield as well. There were times where he would lead-off at the plate.

“Collier came to us as a freshman and has started in the middle infield as a freshman and sophomore,” said Middlesboro coach John Smith. “He has done a great job, filling in at short when (Tyler) McCullough pitched and anchoring down the second base spot.

“He also did a great job in the lead-off spot this year. I’m glad he has the opportunity to represent Middlesboro and has a chance to showcase his ability at this all star game.”

Elkins played in 30 games this year and finished the season with 99 at-bats. He scored 26 runs on 29 hits. He had 10 stolen bases and 16 RBI. He ended the year with a .293 batting average and a .374 slugging percentage.

Elkins’ solo home run came against Whitley County near the end of the year.

The sophomore saw a limited amount of time on the mound finishing the year throwing 10 innings, eight strike outs while tallying one save.
