Middlesboro senior Tyler McCullough gained statewide recognition for his performance on the diamond this year. The Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association announced on Monday that he was named All-State Honorable Mention.

McCullough helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a 21-12 record last season. While Middlesboro’s long streak of 13th Region All A titles came to an end, they advanced to the semifinals of the 13th Region Tournament.

“Tyler has been a great asset to this program over the last six years. He has been one of our top pitchers and leading hitters,” said Middlesboro coach John Smith. “He will be missed, not only by the coaches, but our program and team members. It was an honor to have had the opportunity to coach him.”

In addition to receiving honorable mention recognition, McCullough was also named a Senior All-Star.

“I am happy that he was chosen to represent the East Senior All Stars and received All-State Honorable Mention,” said Smith. “I would like to thank him for what he has done for our program. He is very deserving, and I wish him the best.”

McCullough was Middlesboro’s ace pitcher on the mound. He started 15 games and pitched a team-high 57.1 innings. He finished the year with a 5-3 record with one save. He ended the season with an ERA of 2.51 — lowest on the team — while allowing 16 earned runs and 30 runs overall.

At the plate, McCullough registered 110 at-bats while tallying 38 runs and 38 hits. He finished the year with a .345 batting average and a .627 slugging percentage. He tallied 28 RBI and stole 29 bases. He hit seven home runs during the season.
