Pineville added another victory to the win column on Monday when the team hosted Berea in a doubleheader. After falling 5-1 in the first game, the Mountain Lions went on an 11-run rally and grabbed a 19-12 victory to earn the split.
“We made really good contact in the first game, (but) we just hit it right to them. They got up on us 2-0 in the first. We battled back got it 2-1, and then we gave up a couple late in that first game,” said Pineville coach Chris Murphy. “(Berea’s) pitcher threw awesome in the first game. Don’t take anything away from Berea. They played a great game. We just hit it right to them.
“In the second game, it kind of flip-flopped. They were hitting it to us, and we were hitting some gaps. We’re down 11-8 going into the top of fifth and battled back like that. I’m proud of my boys. I’m proud of them.”
Game 1: Berea 5, Pineville 1

Game 2: Pineville 19, Berea 12
The second game of the doubleheader was a high-scoring affair as Pineville and Berea combined for 30 runs. In the end, it was the Mountain Lions who used an 11-run rally in the final inning to capture a 19-12 victory.
Reese Capps was an offensive catalyst in the second game going 4-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs. Cole Gent led the team in runs finishing the night with four on two walks and one hit. The junior also tallied two RBIs.

Things looked grim early in the game for Pineville. Berea went on a five-run rally in the bottom half of the second to grab a 7-1 lead heading into the third.
Pineville responded in the third tallying seven runs of their own to grab an 8-7 lead. An RBI single by Reed Baker cut the lead to 7-2 before an RBI single by Gambrel narrowed the deficit to 7-3.
An RBI double by Gent and a bases-loaded walk cut the lead to 7-5 with one out on the board.
A wild sequence of events allowed Pineville to take the lead. Capps smacked the ball into the outfield allowing both Gent and Gilbert to score. Simpson attempted to make it home but was tagged out at the plate.
Berea thought Simpson was the third out and started heading to the dugout, which allowed Capps to score from third to give the Mountain Lions an 8-7 lead.

RBIs from Goodin and Baker increased the Pineville lead to 13-11. The Lions scored six more runs before the final out was thrown giving the team a 19-11 lead.
