The Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival begins at the end of the month and as the date draws near more information on this year’s activities becomes available.
The annual Window Contest is just one of the many features the festival provides — as it allows all contestants to beautify windows in Downtown Pineville in the spirit of the festival.
There is no fee for the Window Contest. If you wish to join in on the contest simply contact the window committee.
The theme for this year’s contest is “Generations of Tradition.”
The size of the decorations do not impede the judges’ decision and will not be penalized. There is criteria to help the judges to decide on an winner, and they are overall eye-catching ability, a clear reflection of this year’s theme, a representation of regional natural elements such as mountain laurel, and the colors of mountain laurel — pink and green.
The deadline for the competition is May 17. A window walk for people to peruse the various displays is set for May 18, which is also the first Main Street Live concert of the summer. The walk begins at 5 p.m. and the concert with Chris Blake and the Long Neck Gypsies will commence at 6 p.m.
Also on May 18 is the judging contest, for which all windows must be completed by 3 p.m.
In other KMLF news the carnival wristbands are now on sale at Long’s Pic Pac in Downtown Pineville. Unlimited rides for the carnival will be $17. Each wristband is only good for one ride session.
