The Middlesboro girls track team finished top-five at the First Priority Meet of Champions on May 1. The team ended the day with 60 points — just 15 points shy of fourth place. The Lady Jackets finished behind North Laurel.

Middlesboro ended the evening with two first-place finishes. Mallory James won the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:50.70 — three seconds faster than Corbin’s Hannah Morton. Timesha Brooks earned first place in the shot put.

Grace Rose took second place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:38.57. Rose also grabbed a second-place finish as a member of the 4×800 relay team that scored a time of 10:53.93. Other members of the team included Jocelyn Wright, James and Kennadi Larew.

The 4×100 team of Katelyn Delk, Alexis Vanover, Amber Mullins and Kayla James finished third in the event with a time of 58.69 — just under a second behind Harlan County.

Wright finished fifth in the 400-meter dash for the Lady Jackets, while Bailey Woody earned a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. Malorie Carter placed fifth in the discus throw.

Bell County and Pineville ended the meet of champions with decent performances. The Lady Cats finished eighth at the event, and the Lady Lions earned a 12th-place finish.

Lenia Miracle earned the highest finish of the day for Bell County when she placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.72. She also tallied a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash and third as the anchor of the 4×200-meter relay team.

Other members of the 4×200-meter relay team included: Victoria Partin, Haley Morales and Kaitlyn Henderson.

Morales finished fourth for Bell County in the 100-meter hurdles and third in the 2000-meter steeplechase. Lindsey Woody placed fifth in the shot put.

Faith Long was the lone Lady Lion to finish top five in any event. She placed second in the shot put and fourth in the discus.
