Fielding errors were the downfall of Pineville during Tuesday’s meeting with Jackson County. The Mountain Lions committed seven errors with many resulting in runs en route to a 22-1 loss to the Generals.

Jackson County finished the night with over 20 hits. Zander Elam paced the team going 3-for-3 with five RBIs and two runs. McGwire Wilson and Evan Smith led the Generals in runs with four apiece. Wilson had the highest hit total finishing with five on the day.

Elam picked up the win on the mound allowing six hits and one run through four innings. He only walked three batters. Dalton Combs closed the game for Jackson County.

Pineville tallied six hits on the night but left six runners stranded on base. Cody Goodin led the team going 2-for-3 with one RBI. Reese Capps scored one run on one hit. Cole Gent, Timmy Gambrel and Jonathan Simpson each tallied hits as well.

Deon Coffman was credited with the loss on the day after giving up 16 earned runs and allowing 15 hits through 2 1/3 innings. Josh Holland came in for relief and allowed five hits and five runs through 1 2/3 innings. Simpson closed the game and allowed one hit.

Things started off rocky from the opening inning for Pineville. Three consecutive fly balls were dropped allowing Jackson County to load the bases with no outs. Canaan Browning scored on a bases-loaded walk to give the Generals a 1-0 lead.

A second bases-loaded walk allowed Wilson to reach home and increase the lead to 2-0. Smith scored on a double-play to give Jackson a 3-0 lead. With two outs on the board, a two-run triple by Combs ballooned the lead to 5-0 at the end of one.

Things continued to go south for Pineville in the second innings. With one out, Wilson scored on an error to increase the lead to 6-0. An RBI single from Blaine Miller increased the lead to seven before Elam scored on an error to give the Generals an 8-0 lead.

Miller and Blake Smith also scored before the inning ended to widen the margin to 10-o after two innings.

The Generals scored eight runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach at 18-0.

Pineville prevented the shut in the bottom half of the third. After reaching on an error, Capps stole second on a passed ball and stole third on a walk. An RBI single by Goodin narrowed the deficit to 18-1.

The Generals went on to score four more runs in the fifth inning to secure the 21-run victory.

Pineville (4-13) returns to action at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday to host district rival Lynn Camp (2-7).

Jackson County (9-7) will look to extend their winning streak to five games when they travel to Oneida Baptist Institute (2-8) on Thursday.
