Burnett pitches a no-hitter as Bobcats sweep Middlesboro

- Photo by Jon Dickenson Bell County's Blake Burnett pitched a no-hitter Monday as the Bobcats rolled to a 16-1 win over Middlesboro.
Bell County rolled to a pair of district victories over Middlesboro to open the week, 16-1 in three innings on Monday at home and 16-4 in five innings on Tuesday at Middlesboro.
Junior right-hander Blake Burnett pitched a no-hitter in the opening game with five strikeouts and one walk and one unearned run allowed.
Cooper Brock pounded out three hits to lead the Bobcats on offense. Hunter Fuson added a double and single. Brayden Carroll singled twice. Burnett, Holden Clark and Jackson Walters added one single each. Carroll, Fuson and Joseph Brigmon drove in two runs each.
Walters drove in three runs Tuesday with a homer and single. Brock added a double and single. Brigmon, Burnett, Carroll, Fuson and Mason Sziksai added one single each.
Brigmon started on the mound, giving up no hits with four strikeouts and one walk in two innings. Derrick Goodin gave up four runs (three earned) with two strikeouts and no walks in two innings to earn the win. Alex Creech allowed one hit with one strikeout in one inning.
No statistics were available for Middlesboro.
Bell County closed the week with a 10-1 loss Thursday against visiting Knox Central.
Brigmon led the Bobcats with a double and single. Walters single twice. Brock had a double. Clark, Ty Mays and Creech added singles.
Brock started on the mound and gave up five runs on four hits with four strikeouts and six walks in 1 2/3 innings. Carroll pitched 3 1/3 shutout innings with seven strikeouts and three walks. Logan Green allowed five unearned runs on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. Creech recorded the final out.
The 10-8 Bobcats travel to Barbourville on Monday, McCreary Central on Tuesday and play host to Leslie County on Friday. The 0-12 Jackets play host to Pineville on Tuesday and Lynn Camp on Thursday.
