The SEKC Championships were held on Friday at Harlan County High School. Middlesboro came away from the track meet as the highest finisher in the coverage area placing fourth. Bell County registered a sixth place finish while Pineville ended the day ranked eighth.

The Lady Jackets walked away from the meet with eight top-five finishes on the day. In the 800-meter dash, it was Grace Rose that placed third with a time of 2:37.97 — three seconds behind Lauren Simons of Corbin.

Mallory James placed second for Middlesboro in the 1600-meter run. She was four seconds shy of Selena Mattingly of Williamsburg. James also placed third in the 3200-meter run.

The Middlesboro 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams finished third, while the 4×400 team finished fifth. The 4×800 team of Jocelyn Wright, James, Kennadi Larew and Rose grabbed a second place finish with a time of 11:01.89.

Malorie Carter placed fifth in discus and Timesha Brooks grabbed a second place finish in the shot put.

For Bell County, it was Lindsey Woody who grabbed the highest finish in any event. The freshman placed third in discus.

Lenia Miracle grabbed a fifth place finish for the Lady Cats in the 100-meter dash and a fourth place finish in the 200-meter dash. Jazmine Brannon finished fourth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:16.45.

Haley Morales finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles for Bell County. The 4×800 relay team for the Lady Cats finished fifth.

Pineville’s Jenah Helton and Faith Long were the only individuals from the girls team that had a top-five finish. Helton placed fourth in the long jump, while Long finished fifth in the shot put event.

The Pineville 4×200 relay team placed fifth in the event.
