Tigers end Bell’s win streak

Bell County’s six-game winning streak came to an end on Wednesday when they welcomed Barbourville to Log Mountain. The Bobcats held the deficit to three runs before the Tigers rattled off 12 in the third en route to a 16-0 victory.
It was the first time Bell County tasted defeat since April 3, when they lost to Trinity, Ohio at Virginia Beach. It was Barbourville’s second consecutive win after defeating Pineville one day earlier.
The Bobcats tallied four hits on the day but left four runners on base. Jordan Wombles paced Bell going 2-for-2 on the day. Jason Jones, JM Baker, Chandler Mink and Alex Mays also registered hits on the day.
Wombles picked up the loss on the mound for Bell allowing five hits and five runs through 2 1/3 innings. He struck out two batters.
Barbourville was paced by Trey Owens, who finished the game with four RBIs and three runs on three hits. Tyler Warren went 2-for-3 for two RBIs and two runs. Connor Bain went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate while tallying one RBI and two runs.
All together, the Tigers rattled off 11 hits and 14 RBIs during the game.
Mitchell Buchanan earned the victory on the mound allowing only five hits while striking out five batters through four innings. Jared Banfield came in for relief in the final inning and allowed only one hit.
Up Next
Bell County (8-3) traveled to Pineville (3-10) on Thursday before hosting Scott, Tennessee at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Barbourville (6-7) will travel to Berea (1-6) on Friday.
