Bell County wrestling has gotten off to a surprising start. Despite losing six starters out of 14 from last year’s team, the Bobcats are 22-9 in duals this season, losing only to some very highly rated teams such as Meade County, Boyd County and Alcoa. The team finished second overall at an individual tournament at Perry Central. Jacob Brannon and Hunter Goodin were both able to secure individual championships at that tournament.
The Bobcats also had a second-place finish at the McCreary Central Duals to start the season. Following that, the Bobcats were able to place third at the Commodore Duals at Tates Creek. That day featured upset wins over Bullitt Central and Madison Central. The Bobcats also finished second at the Claiborne County Duals, losing only to Alcoa, Tenn. The most impressive outing so far this season was at the Rumble at the Hive hosted by Louisville Central in mid December. The team’s only loss came to Meade County. The Bobcats had wins over Eastern and Doss in their pool.
In tournament wrestling, the Bobcats were in the second tier because of losing in their pool to Meade. The Bobcats defeated Jeffersontown and Jeffersonville, Ind., to finish fifth. The most recent tournament for the Bobcats was the Integrity Family Quick Lube Bobcat Brawl. The Bobcats defeated everyone in their pool. They beat Southwestern and Knox. Their run through pool wrestling also included upset victories over Cocke County, Tenn., and Dunbar. That placed the Bobcats in the finals where they lost to Corbin.
