The Cumberland Gap National Historical Park sent out a notice on Wednesday that several trails and some roads inside the park are still closed due to downed trees from the remnants of Hurricane Helene bringing high winds and rain to the area last Friday.

“Following Hurricane Helene’s impacts, we do not recommend hiking in the park. Most trails have numerous downed trees, trees at high risk of falling, and other unpredictable and hazardous trail conditions. Limited resources and hazardous trail conditions may delay or even prevent emergency responses,” a post on the park’s Facebook page read.

All backcountry campsites are now closed due to storm damage. Additionally, all horse trails are closed. Downed trees and other hazardous conditions make horseback riding inaccessible or unsafe. Guided tours to Hensley Settlement are currently suspended due to inaccessible roads and conditions.

Conditions at various areas of the park as of Wednesday afternoon:

• Pinnacle Road and Overlook: Closed
• Lewis Hollow Picnic Area: Closed
• Hensley Settlement Tours: Suspended
• Gap Cave Tours: Ended for the season as of 9/30
• State Road 988: Open
• Wilderness Road Campground: Open
• Bartlett Park: Open
• Visitor Center: Open
• Civic Park: Open

“Park staff are actively assessing trail conditions and will be working to address the damage over the coming weeks. Your safety is our utmost priority. We urge you to stay updated with the latest information, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation,” the post added.
