Kentucky Senator Johnnie L. Turner had to be flown out Sunday evening (September 15) after a serious accident involving a riding lawnmower he was operating at his home in the Sukey Ridge community of Harlan County.
The news was confirmed according to a statement from Kentucky Senate President Robert Stiver (R), of Manchester.
“Sen. Johnnie Turner remains in critical but stable condition at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.  I’ve been in touch with Johnnie’s family, who are with him at the hospital,” said Stivers. “The family requests prayers for a speedy recovery.”
Kentucky State Police Public Information Officer Shane Jacobs said the call reporting a lawnmower accident came in to Post 10 at 7:58 p.m. on Sunday.
Turner was driving his riding lawnmower when it went into the deep end of an empty pool. Dispatch then paged out troopers, the Sunshine Fire Department, and Lifeguard EMS.
Turner was transported to the Harlan ARH Hospital helipad to be flown to a UT Medical Center.
State Representative Adam Bowling has also expressed his concern for Turner.
“Our prayers are with Senator Turner, his family, and medical team,” Bowling told the Harlan Enterprise. “I am grateful they were able to stabilize his condition and hopeful that the strength and determination that make him an incredible advocate for his district will also lead to a speedy recovery and full healing.”
