The postseason awards keep rolling in for a pair of local players. Brittney Cupp and Jill Enix received regional honors from both the media and the coaches. It is the second time this season the two have received awards. Both received district honors as well.
Cupp was named the 13th Region Media Girls Breakthrough Player of the Year. She was also named to the 13th Region Second Team. The 13th Region Coaches Association named her First Team All-Region and a member of the Senior Academic All-Region team.
In her first and only year with Bell County, Cupp was a difference maker for the Lady Cats. The Southeast Missouri State commit led Bell County in scoring and rebounds averaging 14.1 points and 13.4 rebounds.
Cupp’s rebounding numbers were good enough for the senior to finish fifth in the state. She also led the team in field-goal percentage shooting at a 49.5 percent clip.
The media named Enix to the third team, while the coaches association named her First Team All-Region. She earned Senior Academic All-Region honors as well.
Enix was a catalyst for Pineville the moment she stepped foot on the court as a freshman. During her senior campaign, she paced the Lady Lions in both scoring and rebounds. She averaged a double-double tallying 16.1 points and 11.8 rebounds per game.
Enix finished the year 11th in the state in rebounding.
Middlesboro’s Lakin Burke was the last local player recognized by both the media and the coaches association. She received honorable mention from the media and was placed on the All-Region Third Team by the coaches association.
The eighth-grader was a mainstay in the rotation throughout the year before earning a spot in the starting five as the season drew to a close. She led the team in scoring averaging 13.6 points per game while shooting a team-best 56.3 percent from the field.
Burke also led the Lady Jackets in rebounds averaging 5.6 per game.
Bell County’s Abby Harris received recognition from the coaches association earning Second Team All-Region honors. Middlesboro’s Hannah Warren and Pineville’s Raigan King were named Third Team All-Region by the coaches association.
