The Middlesboro Levitt AMP crowd had the pleasure of witnessing teen guitar phenom Grace Bowers and her band The Hodge Podge. Their show featured authentic classic rock guitar solos mixed in with some funk and soul that left a smile on just about every face in the crowd.

Originally from northern California, Bowers is now based in Nashville and was set to make her Grand Ole Opry debut on July 30, her 18th birthday.

While Bowers and her guitar were front and center, the Hodge Podge also featured the smoky vocal stylings of Esther Okai-Tetteh, Prince Parker on accompanying guitar, Eric Fortaleza on bass, Joshua Blaylock on keys and Brandon Combs on drums.

The band’s debut album “Wine On Venus” is set to drop on Aug. 9. Thursday’s show featured the title track, other originals such as “Tell Me Why U Do That” and “Holding Onto Something” as well as a cover of Sly and The Family Stone’s “Dance To The Music.”

Bowers recently told Guitar World: “I just want to be happy while making the music I love and continue to play it for people who love it too.”

The Middlesboro Music Series continues this week with Scythian headlining Thursday’s free concert.
