Bell County Forestry Camp officials contacted state, city and county agencies to offer assistance to local communities after torrential rainfall resulted in flooding and landslides across southeast Kentucky.
Several local agencies responded to the offer and were scheduling inmate work crews to assist with the cleanup.
“We are here to do what we can to get our community back on its feet,” said Warden Keith Helton. “We’re part of this community and when help is needed, we’ll be there.”
The minimum-security prison has a long-standing record of assisting the area after natural disasters. The prison also partners with the Division of Forestry to provide fire fighting crews.
