Lady Jackets fall on the road 47-46 to Claiborne

The Middlesboro girls basketball team found themselves in a battle on the road at Claiborne, Tennessee on Monday. After holding a slim one-point lead after the first quarter, the Lady Jackets found themselves playing catch up heading into the final frame.
Despite outscoring the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth quarter, Middleboro came up a point shy losing to Claiborne 47-46.
For the Lady Jackets, it’s the team’s third consecutive loss and fourth in the last five games. For the Lady Bulldogs, they avenged a 22-point loss to Middlesboro from earlier in the season.
Jamayha Poe led the Lady Jackets with 18 points while going 7-for-12 from the free-throw line. Baylee Woody scored 12 points while Lakin Burke chipped in 10.
Emma Beason paced Claiborne hitting seven shots from the field on her way to a game-high 19 points. Macie Sumner tallied nine points on three 3-pointers, and Jaden Thompson added eight points to the scoreboard.
Middlesboro ended the first quarter with a 10-9 lead.
Claiborne grabbed the lead in the second quarter after outscoring Middlesboro by four points. Beason’s seven points helped the Lady Bulldogs gain a 25-22 halftime lead.
Claiborne increased their lead to five by the end of the third quarter with Beason once again scoring seven points in the quarter. The Lady Bulldogs held a 37-32 lead after three.
Middlesboro made a push for the lead in the final frame with Poe’s seven points leading the way. Even though the Lady Jackets outscored Claiborne in the fourth, it wasn’t enough as the Lady Bulldogs walked away with a one-point victory.

Middlesboro (8-13) will host Pineville (16-7) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
