Lady Lions rout Thomas Walker

The Pineville girls basketball team matched their season-long winning streak after picking up their fifth straight victory on Thursday. On the road, the Lady Lions were hardly in any danger during their 53-30 win over Thomas Walker.

Getting back into rhythm, Pineville has rattled off four double-digit victories in their last five games. The only game where they won by single digits was against Bell County just two days prior.

Raigan King led Pineville hitting seven of her nine attempts from the field on her way to a game-high 16 points. She also grabbed a pair of rebounds during the game.

Jill Enix and Sarah Combs also put together decent games on the road. Enix tallied her 11th double-double of the season finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds. She also had three assists and a steal. Combs ended the night with seven points, six assists and a pair of steals.

With the game well in hand by the fourth quarter, Pineville’s young bench gained some experience. Virginia Hall led the group with four points while tying for a team-high three steals. Chesney Brock scored three points while hauling in four boards. Summer Partin added three points to the scoreboard.

Talyn Dibrell paced Thomas Walker with a team-high 15 points. Bella Schwartz chipped in seven points while Madison Mayes added four points to the final score.

Thomas Walker kept the game close in the first grabbing a 7-6 lead after a Schwartz free throw with 4:54 remaining. The lead was short-lived as the Lady Lions ended the quarter on a 12-4 run to gain an 18-11 lead.

Pineville outscored the Lady Pioneers 14-6 in the second quarter. After Schwartz opened the second with a basket, the Lady Lions went on an 12-0 run to increase their lead to 30-13 with 3:30 remaining in the half. A Brock free throw capped the run.

Kim Lee hit a layup to narrow the deficit to 30-15 before Caldwell scored on a layup to return the lead to 17. Dibrell scored on a put-back to cut the deficit to 32-17 at halftime.

The Lady Lions held Thomas Walker to three points in the third quarter, all from Dibrell. Pineville ended the quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 43-20 lead into the final period.

Both teams scored 10 points in the final quarter to give the Lady Lions a 13-point victory.

Pineville (12-2) hosted Knox Central on Friday before squaring off against Williamsburg (9-5) at 7:30 p.m. at OBI in the opening round of the 13th Region All A Classic.
