Brittney Cupp has been quite the asset for the Bell County girls basketball team since joining the Lady Cats at the end of last year. The senior center — who spent most of her high school career at Cumberland Gap High School — has helped lead Bell County to an 8-6 season thus far with the team winning four of their last five games.
Cupp has been a force on both offense and defense. Listed at 6-foot-3, it’s no surprise that the senior is a great rebounder. With 13 games under her belt, she is currently ranked eighth in the state in rebounds averaging 12.3 per game.
Cupp is the only player in the 13th Region ranked in the top 10 with Pineville’s Jill Enix coming in at No. 11 with 11 boards per game. Cupp has tallied 160 rebounds this season.
On the year so far, the Southeast Missouri State signee is averaging a double-double for Bell County while leading the Lady Cats in both categories. She has averaged 13.4 points to go with her 12.3 rebounds.
Cupp has registered a double-double in eight games this season: against OBI, Harlan County, Lee (Jonesville, Virginia), McCreary Central, Clinton County, Williamsburg, Frankfort and Raceland.
Recently, the Lady Cats competed in and won the Christmas at the Capital holiday tournament in Frankfort — defeating Brown 41-37 to earn the title. During that three-day stretch, Cupp tallied double-digit rebounds in all three games while earning a double-double in two.
Against Frankfort, Cupp recorded 17 points to go along with her 14 rebounds. She tallied 27 points and 11 rebounds against Raceland before scoring six points and grabbing 12 rebounds against Brown.
