Pineville rebounds with a 65-40 win over Red Bird

After a tough loss to Cumberland Gap on Dec. 12, Pineville picked up the pieces and hosted Red Bird on Friday. In a nice rebound match-up, the Lady Lions routed the Lady Cardinals 65-40.
The victory extends Pineville’s record to 6-1 and gives the team it’s fourth region victory of the year. While the Lady Lions are no longer undefeated, they still hold a 4-0 mark in the 13th Region — along with Harlan County, Clay County and Knox Central.
On Friday, four Pineville players found themselves in double-digits. Jill Enix shot 46.7 percent from the field on her way to a team-high 15 points. She was one rebound shy of a double-double tallying nine boards.
Makenzie Fuson scored 12 points on the night while shooting at a 50 percent clip. She also grabbed six rebounds. Sarah Combs and Virginia Hall chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Raigan King was one point shy of a double-double ending the game with nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds. She also went 5-for-8 from the charity stripe.

Pineville (6-1) will travel to Harrogate, Tennessee at 6 p.m. on Thursday to battle J. Frank White Academy in the J. Frank White Classic.
Red Bird (1-4) returns to action on Jan. 5 against June Buchanan (2-3).

On Dec. 14, the Pineville girls basketball team suffered their first loss of the season. On the road, the Lady Lions fell to Cumberland Gap, Tennessee 42-38.
The loss ended a five-game winning streak that saw Pineville defeat Jackson County, Lee, Thomas Walker, Williamsburg and Barbourville. The defeat also ended Pineville’s run as one of the few remaining undefeated teams in the 13th Region.
Both Raigan King and Jill Enix kept the Lady Lions in the game. The duo combined for 31 points. King finished the game with a double-double scoring 19 points and bringing down 12 rebounds.
Enix also registered a double-double adding 12 points to go with her 10 rebounds. Madison Ford was the only other player for Pineville to score from the field. She finished with four points.
