Lady Jackets fall to Barbourville

Middlesboro’s recent struggles continued on Friday as the Lady Jackets fell to Barbourville 53-39.

Gracie Gent and Kailey Owens led the young squad offensively. Grent finished with 12 points while shooting 60 percent from the field. Owens also finished with 12 points while hauling in a game-high 23 rebounds. Emrey Glover ended the night with seven points.

For Barbourville, three players ended the evening with double-doubles. Brianna Gallagher finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Laura Smith tallied 11 points while also hauling in 10 rebounds. Abbagail Smith scored 10 points to go with her 10 rebounds.

Barbourville’s Grace Jones led all scorers with 13 points while shooting 45.5 percent from the field.

Knox Central inches by Lady Lions

A 21-point performance by Presley Partin helped Knox Central get by Pineville on Saturday as the Lady Panthers earned a 60-55 victory.

Whitney Caldwell put on a great performance for the Lady Lions scoring a game-high 32 points. She shot 12-for-17 from the field while connecting on two of her three 3-pointers. She also went 6-for-7 from the charity stripe.

Virginia Hall was the only other Lady Lion to reach double figures. She tallied 11 points. Raigan King led Pineville on the glass with eight rebounds.

Partin’s 21 points paced Knox Central with Caylan Mills finishing with 18 points of her own. Mills shot 66.7 percent from the field during the game and hauled in a team-high eight rebounds.

Bell County girls defeat Washburn, Tenn.

The Lady Cats extended their current winning streak to three games on Thursday defeating Washburn, Tenn. 51-43.

Abby Harris paced Bell County scoring 24 points while shooting at a 53.3 percent clip. She also went 8-for-12 from the free-throw line and hauled in eight rebounds.

Talyah McQueen finished with a double-double scoring 13 points while grabbing 12 boards. Abigail Cornett scored five points during the game.

Jackets win in double overtime thriller

In what was quite the exciting game, Middlesboro defeated Barbourville 57-56 in double overtime on Friday.

The trio of Jabari Kyle, Trey Brock and TJ Patterson helped the Jackets get the victory. Kyle ended the night with a team-high 18 points while shooting 50 percent from the field.

Both Patterson and Brock scored 11 points apiece during the game. Patterson shot 60 percent from the field, while Brock shot the ball at a 57.1 percent clip. Patterson led the team with six boards. Brock ended the night with five rebounds.

Barbourville’s Shawn Vaughn led all scorers with 22 points. Matthew Gray ended the night with 13.

Pineville comes up short against Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

Pineville narrowly missed out on a victory Saturday when the team crossed the state-line into Tennessee. The Mountain Lions lost to Pigeon Forge 63-58.

Keean Fuson led the Mountain Lions with 20 points while shooting 50 percent from the field. Sean Phipps ended the evening with a double-double tallying 18 points and 10 rebounds. Clay Goodin tallied 12 points during the game despite shooting 37.5 percent from the field.
