Middlesboro boys defeat Leslie, 68-44

A big game from senior forward Trey Brock helped propel Middlesboro past Leslie County on Tuesday. The forward tallied 20 points en route to a 68-44 victory for the Yellow Jackets. He was three rebounds shy of securing a double-double, finished with seven boards.

Brock ended the night 5-for-8 at the free-throw line.

Jay West and TJ Patterson reached double figures scoring 10 points apiece. Senior guard Jabari Kyle ended the game with nine points.

Leslie County was paced by Trenton Day with 15 points. Jason Baker ended the night with a game-high eight rebounds.

The victory extends Middlesboro’s current winning streak to three games after they came up with a victory over Oneida Baptist Institute on Jan. 16 and a win over Thomas Walker, Va. on Jan. 20.

Middlesboro (12-7) was slated to host North Laurel (13-5) on Friday.

Pineville girls win back-to-back games over Lynn Camp, Red Bird

The Lady Lions grabbed two victories in back-to-back nights earlier this week with wins over Lynn Camp and Red Bird. On Monday, Pineville defeated Lynn Camp 65-28 before traveling to Red Bird to pick up a 73-57 victory on the road.

Against Lynn Camp, it was the duo of Whitney Caldwell and Raigan King that took center stage. Caldwell ended the night with a game-high 23 points and seven rebounds. King tallied 14 points and six rebounds.

Both Brittney Davis and Virginia Hall ended the game with eight points apiece. Hall shot 66.7 percent from long range.

The Lady Cats were led by Abby Mabe’s seven points. Abigail Boggs ended the night with six points.

Caldwell, King and Summer Partin led Pineville against Red Bird. Caldwell finished with a team-high 28 points while connecting on 10 field goals. She ended the night with a double-double after hauling in 10 rebounds.

King also finished the night with a double-double grabbing 10 boards while tallying 21 points. She shot 81.8 percent from the field.

Summer Partin scored 17 points on the night while connecting on six of her nine shots, including three 3-pointers.

Red Bird was paced by Alyssa Gibson’s game-high 29 points.

Pineville (10-5) returns to action at 7:30 p.m. on Monday when they host Whitley County (7-12).

Mountain Lions fall to Whitley County, Barbourville

A 21-point outing from Dalton Mason wasn’t enough on Tuesday as Pineville fell to Whitley County on the road. The Mountain Lions suffered their second consecutive loss on Thursday falling 64-55 to Barbourville.

While Mason showcased his ability to get points on the scoreboard, two other Mountain Lions reached double figures as well. Sean Phipps registered another double-double finishing the night with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Clay Goodin ended the night with 13 points while going 6-for-8 from the free-throw line.

Austin Fuson was the only other player to register a basket for Pineville. He finished with four points.

Pineville (6-10) will look to get back on track at 7 p.m. on Tuesday when the host Jackson County (7-9).
