Union men’s soccer starts out strong but falls 2-0

BARBOURVILLE — Despite a strong first half, Union College fell to visiting University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) 2-0 Wednesday.
Goalkeeper Filipe Barateiro continued his strong start to the season, notching nine saves on the night.
The loss drops Union to 1-3 overall.
TURNING POINT:
Cumberlands controlled the play in the second half, scoring both goals while keeping the Bulldogs out of the net.
STAT OF THE GAME
Cumberlands outshot Union 23-16 with 11 of those shots on goal.
BULLDOG NOTES
Both teams collected their share of yellow cards with the Bulldogs receiving three and the Patriots four.
After tonight the last ten matches in the series are tied at 4-4-2.
The Bulldogs fell to Cumberlands last year 2-1 in overtime.
NEXT FOR THE BULLDOGS
Union travels to the University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday for its last game before beginning Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. This will be the first regular-season meeting between the Bulldogs and Racers. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
