Lady Jackets drop season-opener to South Laurel, 6-1.

The Middlesboro Lady Jackets‘ soccer team dropped their season-opener to the South Laurel Lady Cardinals 6-1 on the road Tuesday.
With a limited amount of shots-on-goal (2), Middlesboro was unable to overcome a potent offensive performance by South Laurel.
Senior Emily Barnwell netted Middlesboro’s only goal of the game. Sophomore keeper Jordyn Ferguson was credited with 10 saves, while allowing six goals.
South Laurel was led by Katie Vance with three goals. She was followed by Isabella Dotson and Ashlyn Davis with two and one goals, respectively. The Lady Cardinals’ keeper, Madison Vandeventer was credited with only one save but only allowed one goal.
The Lady Jackets’ season got off to a similar start in the 2018 season, as they dropped their season opener to Claiborne County (Tenn.). Middlesboro quickly responded by notching their first victory in the following game over J. Frank White Academy (Tenn.), 6-2.
The Lady Jackets finished 2018 with an 8-8 overall record, including a 7-5 mark in the region and a 7-1 record in district play.
The Middlesboro was slated to travel to Whitley County on Thursday at 6 p.m.
The Lady Cardinals were slated to play the Madison Southern Lady Eagles on Thursday.
