Union football pegged to finish fifth in MSC Appalachian Division

BARBOURVILLE — The Union College football team is projected to finish fifth in the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Appalachian Division, according to the coaches’ poll.

Coaches voted only within their division and were not allowed to vote for their own team in the poll.

The Bulldogs garnered a total of 16 voting points, while Reinhardt University (Ga.) received six first-place votes for 36 points in landing the top spot. Bluefield College (Va.) was second with 28 points with Point University (Ga.) receiving one first-place vote and 27 points to slide in at third. St. Andrews University (N.C.) is fourth with 20 points.

Kentucky Christian University and Cincinnati Christian University (Ohio) are new to the MSC Appalachian Division. The two competed in the MSC Bluegrass Division the past two seasons. Kentucky Christian is picked to finish sixth with 12 points, while Cincinnati Christian is seventh with eight points.

Union finished 2018 with a 2-8 overall record and went 1-5 in the MSC Appalachian. The Bulldogs open the new season on Aug. 29 at NCAA Division I Morehead State University (Ky.). Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
