BARBOURVILLE — In preparation of the upcoming 2019-20 season, three members of the Union College men’s golf team have found success on the links during the summer.
Sam Moore, a senior from Harlan, won the Wasioto Winds Club Championship earlier this month with rounds of 70 and 74 for a final tally of 2-over 144.
Meanwhile, sophomore Joakim Larsson won a one-day tournament in his home country of Sweden, shooting a 1-over 73.
Declan Riddle, who is an incoming freshman from Summerland, British Columbia, won his last junior tournament earlier this week with rounds of 72 and 69 for a 141 total. Riddle outpaced the field by five shots.
“As a young team last year, we didn’t fare very well,” said Union head coach Bill Sergent. “However, these three young men winning tournaments this summer shows there will a lot of excitement going into the 2019-20 season. I believe that this is the first time in my coaching career to have three different players winning summer tournaments, so there is a reason for optimism for this upcoming season.”
The Bulldogs open the fall season in the Malone University Invitational in Alliance, Ohio, on Sept. 6-7 before returning home to play in the Bill Sergent Invitational hosted by the University of the Cumberlands on Sept. 9-10.
