Four people involved in a Monday morning accident were flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for their injuries.

Troopers with the Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 25E in the Meldrum community. Trooper Don Perry responded and is in charge of the investigation.

Preliminary investigation indicates 57-year-old Lewis Saylor, of Pineville, was attempting to make a left turn off of U.S. 25E onto Ky 188 while operating a yellow Chevrolet Cobalt. Saylor turned into the path of a blue Ford Fusion operated by 21-year-old Lauren Kirby, of Middlesboro, who was traveling north on U.S. 25E.

Both Saylor and Kirby were flown out due to the extent of their injuries.

According to the KSP press release, both passengers from each vehicle were flown to UT for their injuries as well.

Ciara Jones,12, of Middlesboro, was the passenger in the yellow Cobalt and one-year-old Grayson Short, of Middlesboro, was the passenger in the blue Ford Fusion.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the collision. Seatbelts and child restraints were in use at the time of the collision.

The Bell County Fire Department, Middlesboro Fire Department, Bell County Rescue Squad and constable Glen Hobbs all assisted on the scene.
