The Bible Brew opened last week at 218 Park Avenue in Pineville (the old Spectrum building). Owners Lisa Fugate and Annie Nierengarten and Tony Nierengarten were joined by several friends and family members, Mayor Shawn Fugate II, Sen. Scott Madon and members of the Main Street Board for their ribbon cutting on Tuesday morning.
The store not only has a wide variety of coffees and other drinks that customers can enjoy in a relaxed atmosphere, it also has a small boutique with clothing, bibles and other Christian-themed items.
Annie Nierengarten said opening the coffee shop was her dream and Fugate’s passion was opening the boutique.
“I just wanted a place where people could come in and be able to drink their coffee, read their bible, take their notes if they wanted to,” she said. “A place where we could come together and have bible studies and a safe place where kids could come after school. Lisa saw the boutique and clothing side of it and really went above and beyond in taking care of all that.”
Fugate said she was inspired to have clothing like the Lazy Ones brand that she used to have to drive to Pigeon Forge to find for her children.
“We wanted to bring things like that here, clothes that I would let my kids wear,” she said.
There are also several types of bibles and study materials available at the shop and, of course, coffee mugs.
“This was kind of Annie’s dream initially and I’m that pal that says ‘if you want to jump off a bridge, okay let’s do it,” Fugate said. “Four months later here we are — and it wouldn’t be possible without her husband Tony. He built round walls, he moved our ice machine a hundred times. Without him we couldn’t have done it, without our families we couldn’t have done it so thank you all.”
Annie said she wanted to thank the Lord most of all.
“We have our own plans and that’s our scripture: ‘In our own ways we plan our own path that the Lord directs us to,’” she said. “That’s why we’re here today together.”
She said The Bible Brew was a safe place for people to come in and “be loved on and be helped and get to know God.”
“Our door is always open to whoever needs to be here and whatever God needs to do in their life, I pray that they find it here,” Annie said.
