The City of Middlesboro’s annual Community Cleanup will take place on Saturday, April 19 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. starting at the city parking lot.
“We will meet at the back side of the Coal House down on the city parking lot and divide into groups,” said City Councilwoman Judy Grandey, who is organizing the event. “We would like to invite any individual in the community, any school group, any civic organization to come out and join us.”
The Street Department will be supplying trash bags and gloves and may have some safety vests and pickers available. Collected garbage will be left at designated spots within each targeted area.
After meeting at 9 a.m. the groups will head out to targeted areas in the downtown area.
“We will not be out on major roadways. There are six zones that involve parks, it’s mostly along the sidewalk on Cumberland Avenue, and one block out on the alleys along the canal walk,” Grandey said.
She added that the event is a great opportunity to show community pride and support.
“Last year we were able to collect over 100 bags of trash in under two hours,” she said.
