Middlesboro hosts Read Across America event

The Children’s Reading Foundation of Appalachia-Ky., Middlesboro Independent Schools’ Innovative Approaches to Literacy and Save the Children teamed up with the City of Middlesboro, Middlesboro Main Street and the Bell County Chamber of Commerce for a Read Across America Event in the city parking lot on Saturday, March 1. The celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday included free books for children as well as other educational materials, family friendly games and activities, community readers and lots of other information. Several local businesses and organizations participated including the LMU School of Education, Southeast Community & Technical College, the Middlesboro Historical Society, GEAR UP, the Middlesboro Fire Department, First State Bank, Food City and the Cumberland Gap National Park.
