House fire claims life of Page woman

One person was killed in a house fire in the Page community of Bell County Wednesday morning.

Kentucky State Police identified the victim as 69-year-old Donna Byrd.

According to KSP Trooper Shane Jacobs, a family of four was inside the residence when the fire broke out, but fortunately, the daughter, son-in-law, and brother were able to escape after an employee with AT&T was driving by and noticed the smoke coming from the residence.

“Mr. Corbin was able to alert the family and assist in getting them out as well as their dog. First responders and detectives are still actively investigating the incident,” Jacobs said. “We will provide further information as it becomes available. Our thoughts are with the family during this incredibly difficult time.”

The Bell County Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the house fire on Highway 119 at approximately 9:48 a.m. on Wednesday. Pineville Fire Department, Bell County  EMS, Kentucky State Police and the Bell County Coroner also responded to the scene.

BCVFD Chief Tim Howard released a statement thanking his firefighters for their response time and the Pineville Fire Department for mutual aid in getting the fire extinguished.

“I would like to thank each of my firefighters that responded to the structure fire on Highway 119. Their response time, teamwork and professionalism was remarkable,” Howard said. “I would also like to thank Pineville City Fire Department for their mutual aid. We worked diligently together to extinguish the fire. Your response, hard work and effort was greatly appreciated.”

Howard also thanked Bell County EMS for being on standby, George Smith with Emergancy Management as well as KSP fire investigators and the state fire marshalls.

“Thank you to all I mentioned for a great response time, your time and dedication, and for the great work you did and continue to do,” Howard added.
