Dr. Jamie Johnson was appointed as the interim superintendent of Middlesboro Independent Schools during a special called meeting Thursday evening. She will lead the district beginning February 1 through June 30 as the board conducts a search for a permanent superintendent.
Current superintendent Waylon Allen is retiring at the end of January.
Dr. Johnson brings 15 years of experience in education, including roles such as Chief Academic Officer, Director of Pupil Personnel, Educational Diagnostician, School Counselor, and elementary classroom teacher. She is committed to ensuring a seamless transition and continued progress for the district during this interim period.
“We are confident that Dr. Johnson will provide the leadership and stability our district needs during this time of change,” said Teresa Brown, Board Chairman. “Her experience and dedication to education and Middlesboro Independent Schools make her the ideal choice during this transition.”
Dr. Johnson is not seeking the permanent superintendent position and looks forward to assisting the district in finding its next leader.
“I am honored to step into this role and support the district during this important time. My goal is to maintain our momentum and ensure a smooth transition for our students, staff, and community,” she said.
The Kentucky School Board Association (KSBA) will assist the district in the search for a permanent superintendent at Middlesboro Independent School District. This process will be thorough and thoughtful, ensuring the selection of a candidate who aligns with the district’s vision and priorities.
