Whenever a teams opens in tournament play, especially at the state level, there is a level of uncertainty that can be expressed.
Sawyer Thompson was having none of that.
The Pineville senior guard logged the fourth triple double in All A history in leading the Lions to a convincing 74-41 victory over 10th Region winner Bishop Brossart.
Thompson stat line of 19 points, 17 rebounds, and 13 assists is only match by three other players. His 13 assists also tie the single game record for the tournament.
But Thompson wasn’t alone.
The 14-5 Lions placed four players in double figures — Ashton Moser and Jerry Beck with 17 each and Cam Puckett with 14.
Drew Steffin led the Mustangs with 10 points.
Pineville came out smoking hot, jumping out to a 26-12 advantage and continued the onslaught in the second quarter, outscoring Brossart 22-8 to put the game away at 48-20.
Pineville moves to the state quarterfinals and meets defending state champion Lyon County at 5 p.m. Friday evening at the Owensboro Sportscenter.
