Making their first trip to the Kentucky All “A” Classic State Tournament in six years, the Middlesboro Lady Jackets were overpowered in the opening game as they fell 71-31 to Owensboro Catholic.
The Lady Jackets turned the ball over 40 times, leading to only 20 shots attempted compared to 63 shots for the Lady Aces, who were playing on their home court at the Owensboro Sportscaster.
Senior wing Aubrey Randolph scored 17 points to lead Owensboro Catholic, the 3rd Region champions.
Middlesboro was led by Millie Roberts with nine points.
The 10-5 Lady Jackets travel to Harlan for a girls/boys district doubleheader on Friday. Owensboro Catholic will play Bethlehem on Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the All “A” quarterfinals.
