3-6 inches of snow expected in Bell County today

The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a Winter Storm Warning for all of southeast Kentucky, including Bell, Harlan, Knox and Whtiley counties with several inches of snow expected today and tonight.

Snowfall for Bell County is projected to begin at approximately 11:30 a.m., with the accumulation of snow beginning mainly after noon. All precipitation is expected to fall in the form of snow only. The high temperature will be near 30. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Tonight’s forecast is for snow before 5am, then a chance of snow and freezing rain. Steady temperature around 30. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
On Saturday there is a chance of snow showers and freezing rain before 11am, then flurries likely. Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 29. West northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%

Bell County Emergency Management says to expect roadways to become snow-covered, which will impact travel.

“Please remember that with this storm snow is expected to begin accumulating immediately, making roadways slippery and hazardous. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency,” they shared on Facebook.
