The Bell County High School community lost one of its biggest supporters on Friday when Glenn Peace passed away at his home, surrounded by his family. He was 87 years old.
Glenn attended old Bell County High School from 1951-1955 and was a member of the football team. He went on to graduate from Cumberland College and began his teaching career at Balkan in 1957. He moved to Page when the school opened its doors in 1965. While at Page, he coached boys’ and girls’ basketball and flag football, and his teaching career spanned 36 years.
Glenn loved anything and everything at Bell County High School. He kept stats for the Bell County football team for 40 years — missing only 2 games during that time. He was inducted into the 13th Region Hall of Fame in 2019 for his service as a contributor to the athletics program in Bell County and was an inaugural member of the Bell County Hall of Fame.
On November 7th, 2014, Glenn was recognized by Bell County High School with a plaque of appreciation for his many years of service and dedication to the football and basketball programs. His seat in the Bell County gymnasium has been retired and dedicated to him along with his friends Sheb Stewart and Carson Arnett, who were fixtures in the front row for decades.
“The Bell County Hall of Fame committee is extremely saddened to learn this morning that we have lost Hall of Fame member, Glenn Peace. Glenn was one of our inaugural inductees and was a legend in our Bell County community. He touched countless lives as both a longtime educator in the Bell County School District and as quite possibly the biggest Bobcat fan in the history of Bell County High School. We are praying for Glenn’s family and the many friends he was so close to in our community,” the Bell County Hall of Fame shared on its Facebook page Friday.
Bell County High School also honored Glenn with a post on the school Facebook page. “Bell County High School is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of legendary fan and hall of fame member, Glen Peace. In addition to his dedication to Bell County High School as a fan, Glen was a beloved educator within the Bell County School District. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Peace family!”
The Bell County football program also took time to remember Glenn.
“It is with heavy hearts that the Bobcat Family mourns the passing of the Greatest Bobcat Fan of All Time, Glenn Peace. His contributions & support to his beloved Bobcats will never be forgotten. Please remember his family in your prayers during the coming days.”
Funeral services for Glenn Peace were set for 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Bell County High School gymnasium with the family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held at noon Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at the Cox Cemetery, Pineville, Kentucky.
