Bell captures district title, runs win streak to 8 with rout of Clay

Bell County added another district title to its impressive list, completing a 4-0 season against district competition with a 49-6 rout of visiting Clay County on Friday.
Junior quarterback Blake Burnett led the Bobcats’ offense, completing five of six passes for 152 yards and a touchdown.
Hunter Everage gave Bell an early lead with a 51-yard touchdown run. Clay pulled even in the second quarter, but the Bobcats wasted little time taking control as Joseph Brigmon hauled in a 57-yard TD pass from Burnett. Kaleb Miller added the two-point conversion.
Burnett went in from the 1 late in the half, then handed the ball to Miller for a two-point conversion and a 22-6 halftime lead.
Bell scored three times in the third quarter, including a 76-yard pass from Burnett to Hayden Damron and Nathaniel Saylor’s 11-yard run to make it 42-6.
Logan Greene’s 7-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter closed the scoring.
Blake Evans led the Bell defense with 13 tackles. Logan Greene and Joshua Owens added 11 each.
The Bobcats close their regular season schedule Friday at Harlan County before opening the 3A playoffs the following week at Log Mountain. The 6-2 Tigers travel to Hazard on Friday and will be on the road for the playoffs the following week.
