Senior tailback Vinnie Smith and sophomore quarterback Deakon Partin combined for four rushing touchdowns Friday night to lead host Middlesboro to a 34-6 district win over Lynn Camp.
Smith rushed for a game-high 132 yards on eight carries and scored on the game’s first play from scrimmage on a 59-yard run. He added an 8-yard TD run during the third quarter.
Partin scored on the first of his two 5-yard runs in the second quarter to stake the Yellow Jackets to a 14-7 lead at halftime.
Partin’s second scoring run of the game came during the third quarter, and freshman Colby Lawson capped the scoring for Middlesboro with a 1-yard, fourth-quarter run.
“We executed a little better on offense,” Middlesboro coach Larry French said. “They’re getting a little more accustomed to what their roles and assignments are, and we really stepped up defense after the first drive.”
Lawson chipped in with 65 rushing yards on just five carries for Middlesboro. Partin added 30 rushing yards on six carries and the Yellow Jackets amassed 270 overland yards as a team.
Partin completed five of his 15 pass attempts for 84 yards.
As a team, Lynn Camp rushed for 221 yards on 50 carries and was held to minus-3 yards passing.
Middlesoro (2-3) will host Harlan (1-4) on Friday.
