The congregation of New Heights Church in Middlesboro honored the memory of their founding pastor Mark Elkins with a donation of gift bags, food, blankets and more to the staff and patients at Baker Cancer Treatment Center in Harrogate, Tennessee.

Elkins passed away on September 9, 2023 following a lengthy battle with cancer. He underwent treatments at the Baker Cancer Treatment Center.

“Thanks to everyone for supporting this effort to honor the memory of our founding pastor Mark Elkins,” a post on the church’s Facebook page read. “There was enough left over to go back for his birthday in November and again at Christmas to deliver more supplies.

“Thank you for helping honor Mark’s memory in such a meaningful way! This is just one more way we continue the mission of loving Jesus, loving others and serving both!”

Pastor Jonathan Neely said the project was “a great example of how to handle grief well while holding onto our mission and vision.”
