At their regularly scheduled May meeting, the Middlesboro Board of Education took a decisive step towards recognizing and valuing the dedication of its educators by unanimously approving a substantial salary increase for certified staff and classified employees.

In a move aimed at addressing the ongoing challenges posed by the teacher and staff shortages, ensuring the delivery of quality education to students, and the continual rise in the cost of living, the board has approved a 6% raise for certified staff and a $1.50 per hour raise for classified employees.

Expressing gratitude towards the faculty and staff, the Board emphasized the crucial role they play in shaping the future of the community. The decision to increase salaries reflects the board’s dedication to providing the best education for the students at MIS.

“By attracting and retaining quality professionals, we can ensure that our students receive the high-quality education they deserve, setting them up for success in the years to come,” Superintendent Waylon Allen said.
