Bell County went from winless to unbeaten in district competition over the course of one season, completing a 6-0 mark this year with a 10-6 win Monday over visiting Middlesboro.
Cooper Brock led the Bell offense with a triple and two singles. Blake Burnett, Hayden Carroll and Hunter Fuson added two singles each. Holden Clark, Jackson Walters and Daniel Thomas contributed one single each.
Joseph Brigmon gave up one run on two hits over four innings with nine strikeouts and four walks to earn the win. Carroll allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits in three innings, with four strikeouts and one walk.
“It was a bit of a mixed bag for us tonight,’ Bell County coach Jeff Sziksai said. “I thought Brigmon competed and threw the ball well, which gave us a chance to win. On the other hand, we allowed some free 90s defensively early in the game that led to scoring opportunities that they took advantage of. We need to clean that up.
“Offensively we were able to create some scoring opportunities and capitalize on some of them. We had some better at-bats tonight and hope to build on those.”
