Moser leads Mountain Lions past Red Bird

The Pineville Mountain Lions improved their record to 3-1 with an 83-36 victory over visiting Red Bird on Thursday night.

The Lions were led by Ashton Moser’s 32 points. Kaiden Robbins poured in 14. Sawyer Thompson added 10 in a winning effort.

The Cardinals were led by Felix Omatokos 13 points.

Pineville led after one period 21-11 and ran out to a 34-8 second quarter to break the game open. Pineville outscored Red Bird 28-17 in the second half to win going away.

The Mountain Lions play Friday night against Rye Cove at Thomas Walker as part of the Lawson Kubota Classic. The game is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.

Pineville won the junior varsity matchup 58-38 over the Cardinals. Preston Zachery and Noah Slone had 16 points each. Owen Jones added 10. David Southern scored six.  Tate Slone and Tyler Jackson tossed in five points each.

Landon Belcher had 11 for the Cardinals.

Despite being down to eight players due to illness and missing their three senior starters, the Pineville Mountain Lions overcame adversity to win 83-51 over Rye Cove in the Lawson Kubota Classic hosted by Thomas Walker High School.

Pineville (3-1) used a suffocating team defense and big scoring nights from Sawyer Thompson and Ashton Moser to come out with the victory.

Thompson had 35 points and Moser scored 29 to lead the Pineville attack. Seventh grade guards Noah Slone and Owen Jones had eight and six points respectively. Kaiden Robbins had four and Preston Zachery added two.

Rye Cove was led by Carter Roach-Hodges 17 points. Luke Jesse had 14.

The Lions won the first three quarters 25-10, 20-10, and 28-15. The Eagles outscored the Lions 16-10 in the final stanza.

Pineville returns to play next Friday night against Whitley County in Williamsburg at 7:30 pm.
